COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS
Other Apps Overwhelm and Don't Motivate Their Users
When searching other apps that have this main break down feature, other apps didn't have a streamlined and easy way to create tasks, and had no way to motivate the user
Competitive Analysis
Overall Findings

Goblin Tools
❌ Users manually type the task and have auto-broken down
❌ Check mark -> users don't feel accomplished

Break Tasks
❌ Users manually type each subtask of the task
❌ Check mark -> users don't feel accomplished

Tiimo
✅ Users can log tasks via voice and have it auto-broken down
❌ Small confetti -> users feel slightly accomplished, but don't feel rewarded
→ Users need an easier way to log tasks to reduce overwhelm
→ Users need to feel rewarded and accomplished after completing tasks so they feel motivated to keep going
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Addressing The Main Pain Points
Referencing the user surveys, I found that breaking up tasks and working with peers is a common way to counteract task paralysis. How might we make breaking up tasks even less overwhelming and making a social aspect even more motivating and rewarding?

Developing the Design
We went through many iterations of the design. Here's a peek into some of our earlier stages!

USER TESTING
Uncovering Major Usability Flaws
I conducted 2 rounds of user testing with 13 people in total, prompting them with tasks and noting down how they navigate the app, being sure to notice any confusion or hesitations they have while walking through each task

COMPARATIVE PREFERENCE TESTING
Fine-tuning the Dashboard
I asked ~5 users which of the frames they preferred/what was more readable in both the card design and the dashboard design, help me decide on what the dashboard should look like
Assignment Card Design
WINNER! 🏆
users expressed that this was the most readable and easiest to understand at first glance
Dashboard Designs
WINNER! 🏆
lighter cards were the most readable
users liked the light cards on a darker background
users wanted the overall feel to be light and playful
DESIGN SYSTEM
Making The App More Approachable & Fun!
The design system was created in the pursuit to create something more fun and welcoming, so that the user could be more motivated to use the app and make completing tasks more fun and engaging!

REFLECTION
Journey in Review
What I would do better next time
User Interviews: I would have liked to conduct user interviews to understand the problem more deeply. Unfortunately, due to time constraint, the taboo around the topic, and the specific demographic that I was targeting, I was unable to get any participants
User Surveys : It would have liked to get more responses in user surveys, especially from those who self-report as having ADHD.
Next Steps
Fleshing out the crumb currency system: I would love to figure out the logistics of the crumb currency system, and possibly implement new features in the social tab to motivate the users, as group rankings might not be engaging enough
Customizing sub-tasks: It would love to add more customization to the sub-tasks. For example, being able to color-code sub-tasks and being able to specifically break down a sub-task even more
